ROM Photography Guide at Registry of Marriage Singapore (ROM), Fort Canning Park.

ROM guide.jpg

If you are planning to have a private solemnisation at the ROM building in Singapore, donā€™t miss out on these iconic and photogenic locations just around the corner. The Registry of Marriage Singapore (ROM) building is located in the middle of Fort Canning Park.

It is surrounded by colonial buildings, nature and historical structures. It is - an ideal location for ROM Photography, Pre Wedding Photography or Actual Day Wedding Photography. I will be sharing some of my favourite locations and photography tips.

I have also prepared a rough timeline for couples on their actual solemnisation day. You may choose to do the Wedding Photography before or after the solemnisation ceremony, depending on your schedule.

If you have a family lunch planned in the afternoon, I would suggest doing the Pre Wedding Photography before the solemnisation.

Timeline

  • Couple photography (1hr approx)

  • Reach 30mins before solemnisation time to register

  • Solemnisation (10min)

  • Family photography

1. Fort Canning Green

Fort Canning Green is the location nearest to the ROM building, being just a few steps behind. It is the place with the largest open area. The white archway entrance is accessible by a small downward slope, which is also wheelchair friendly, so itā€™s an ideal place for outdoor family photos.

2. Fort Canning Park Tree Tunnel

This is one of the most popular and photogenic locations in Singapore. You may have seen photos of this place online and yes, it is also located in Fort Canning Park! It features a large spiral staircase, with a massive tree with overarching branches covering the sky on top. It is so popular that there may be others doing photos there and you would have to queue to wait your turn.

Photography tip: Get low to the ground and use an ultra wide angle lens in order to capture the whole scene.

If the queue is too long, you can head to the pathway just beside it to have some photos with the large stone walls.

3. Cobblestone paths

Fort Canning Park is paved with cobblestone roads throughout and it makes a nice backdrop to wedding photos.

Photography Tip: During the day time when the sun is shining brightly, these roads will be perfect as they are surrounded by tall trees that will diffuse the sunlight. This will make your photos less overexposed.

4. Sang Nila Utama Garden

There is actually a secret Bali styled area as well. Sang Nila Utama garden is inspired by the times of Singapore's founder and first ancient king, Sang Nila Utama. It features archways, pottery and ancient Indonesian artifacts.

Although not as grand as structures found in Ubud, it certainly captures the feeling of Bali in that moment.

This secret garden is located just above the main outdoor car park of the ROM building.
